My question: is there a transmission modulator valve on the 95 Explorers? I have done a search and found no information. It appears 94 and lower have these valves located under the heat shield on right side of tranny. My Haynes manual is of no help since it does not list the years of which have the valve. The book covers 91- 95
Explorers. Did a search on some part sites and came up empty, they didn't even list one for a 94 when I tried that.
If anyone knows if there is one on a 95 please advise and give location.
My problem is the transmission does not shift properly, when colder weather sets in. I believe it is from 2nd to third gear in my automatic. When this condition exists the RPM's above 40 mph are about 2200, after driving about 2-3 miles it shifts properly at about 1800 rpm and functions properly from then on.
Had the fluid and filter changed and made no difference.
Engine has 50k on it. A neighbors relative, owner of transmission shop gave me a bottle of Mega Power transmission conditioner only available to transmission shops. He said the stuff is amazing and fixes many tranny problems. He told me to put it in the warmer months thus lubricating everything well before cold weather approached. Did so in August but it didn't work, past few weeks the condition is still there. The Tranny works fine for 8 months of the year but the other 4 are a nuisance. If I let it warm up for 10 minutes it's not a problem, besides wasting gas I don't want to disturb my neighbors with the engine running early in the morning. I figured let me try to replace the modulator valve since that would be an inexpensive repair I can do myself. Quite frankly I don't think my 95 has a modulator valve since when the guy was changing the tranny fluid I saw several electrical solenoids inside the tranny, it probably shifts electronically. I asked the neighbor’s relative if the problem could be a bad solenoid and he said no, it either works or it doesn't.
I would bring it to his shop but he's over 100 miles away, as for the local shops I see them salivating like a dog in heat every time I pass, once they mount you there's no separating, they got you by the ball joints.
I am wondering if this could be corrected with a governor adjustment, and would that be a costly repair
Any suggestions are appreciated.
