Tranny question

TRANNY QUESTION!!! HELP PLEASE!!!

This is going to sounds like the worlds stupidest question! how can I tell if the TRANNY is slipping? can I tell by RPMs? at times I feel something from the rear kind of like my axle moved forward. This is on a 98 with 60,000 on it. I just put on 33's so I want to get it looked at if it is bad before it gets worse.

When my tranny was bad at 92,000 miles I would need to feather the gas to get it to change gears. Also it would jump RPMs when you were hammering it. I suggest checkig the fluid and looking for a burnt smell and look. Remember check tranny fluid when vehicle is running.

Definantely have it examined by a skilled tranny expert. If it goes out completely it'll cost a LOT more than fixing it now.

The 33s put additional stress on the tranny without regearing. Mine croaked at 93K miles and I too had to feather the gas to change gears.

Well, i just called my dad buddy who owns a tranny shop. He said the tranny is computer controled! and asked if the O/D light has ever flashed i said yes. It only did it once after i got stuck and put in in 4LO never did it again! So into his shop it goes tomorrow! I have this feeling i am going to take a huge hit on this! how much is a tranny at worst????

My tranny ran about 2200 with a bit of extra beef put in. I found out afterwards the tranny can be built to simulate a manual tranny - less slipage and more braking - if done right. Talk to your dad's buddy. With any luck he can beef it up for you, put a shift improver in (I went with hard parts - not an electronic improver. It's a bit stronger that way) and not charge an arm and a leg. Good luck!

Humm!!! well I forgot to mention I only have 60,000 miles on this truck and it is a 98 ! WTF I mean damn can any car company build a reliable product now a days!

I really hope it doesn't cost that much since i only have 1330 saved up. Well it is my dads friend and he has known me since i was 5 and i helped build his shop back in the day. i am sure he will work with me.

Trannies and their installation isn't cheap.....Unless this friend gives ya some incredible deal...expect to pay a grand at least

my old car tranny went and it was under warrantee and it cost like 1700.00 but that was at the dealer!

This guy is cool, but he also has to make money so I don't expect all that great of a deal!
