Hi Everyone, I am a new member but have been looking here for a few months. I have a 92 XL with a 5 speed trans. The shifter is giving me trouble and would like to know if anyone has any insight on my problem. The shifter does not go into first gear very well, it is very hard to get into gear. I took it to a shop and they told me it was the bushings, so they replaced it and after $90.00 it is still the same. Is there any place I can get a detailed view of the shifter and tranny. Thanks in advance for any help. Albert

First of all... welcome to the board. I'm pretty sure you'll find this place very usefull......

as for the tranny... It most likely needs to be redone... Got to take it out and replace pretty much all the interior parts. Hard shifting could be due to bad synchros... but I would check oil level first... 5speed is pretty expensive.

If it is a manual, pop the hood, on the firewall, drivers side, is a resivoir. Pull the cap on it, and there is a rubber boot. pull the rubber boot out and check the fluid. If it is low, it will do the things you say. This is not the master cylinder for the brakes, but smaller. If it is low, it takes brake fluid also!!

that is correct.... check the clutch first... but if there is fluid you'd have to take tranny out to check clutch... I was told that clutch in my 94 Sport was replaced but have not seen any marks, any indications that tranny had been removed.... weird.... is it possible to do without removing the transmission?

Thanks for all the replys, I had the oil changed a few months back and still the same. I also know of the clutch resivor and it is full, I don't think it is the clutch it shifts fine once I get it into first gear. 2 thru 5 are o.k. it is just first,I guess it is time to rebuild but my wife says sell.
Thanks, Albert
