Tranny rebuilt, shifts hard

I have a 99 sport and I just had the tranny rebuilt. I just got the truck back today and noticed that it sort of shifts hard within the lower gears. Is this something that a rebuilt tranny should be doing? Does it correct itself? Is there a problem? Any ideal what could be the problem? I know the repair shop had replaced the torque converter, pump, rings and seals, and I think one or two other things but I dont recall what they were. Thanks for the help.

Rebuilding it should not per se cause "harder" shifts. If it was mushy before a rebuild could firm them up because of higher line pressures, but "hard"shifts are anoter matter. I'd take it to them and ask their opinion. Could be as easy as a misadjusted band. I assume no shift kits were added in this rebuild right?

Glacier991 thanks for the reply. I noticed the truck was slipping very bad and I took it in to have it looked at by Ford. They had told me that the tranny needed to be replaced. I began reading posts and noticed that the explorers week spot happens to be there tranny's so I decided to go to a trans shop to have this done instead of Ford. The guy at the trans shop stated that the trans needed to be replaced but that he would be putting in upgraded parts do to the inferior parts that Ford manufacturers. Here is what had been done. Torque Converter, Front pump assembly, Master Kit, Band assy, and a valve body was replaced. I spoke to him regarding the shifting and he had said that it was normal and that it would smooth itself out. I originally went to them because they are a trans shop but I found out afterwards that they are know for there preformance transmissions. There site is www.levelten.com

I have a 77 International Scout with 392 IH V8 and a A727 chrysler auto. It has over 220,000 miles on it. Previous owner had the tranny bilt by a racing shop at about 5,000 miles in 1977. It will chirp the tires when it shifts at full throttle. Awsome tranny, and it sees more off road and hard usage than any vehicle I own. I had a local tranny shop build another A727 for another rig I own and it puked its guts twice in two years and I baby that rig! My friend had similar problems with another vehicle and another shop. Maybe you went to a good shop maybe not. I have come to the conclusion that good shops are worth every penny but that they might be very rare. Your harder shifts may just be part of a performance package. Most performance kits do shift harder than stock kits. Keep your reciepts just in case.

Thanks Ron, and dont worry I have them and will be holding on to them. I also have a superchip program that is burned into my ecu. I have been doing some snooping around and there website states that they are not made to be used for upgraded trannys. I think I might go back to stock for a week or so to see how everything works out. The actuall shop has asked me prior to me driving the truck to bring it back in two weeks. I guess they have to check the seals or what have you. If I still have these problems I will ask them to look at the truck again.
