will a 90 ford bronco ll 2.9 auto tranny bolt up and function in my 94 4.0 explorer

It should be a near bolt in swap. The only caution would be to know that the 2.9 L A4LD's were not built as strong internally as the 4.0 A4LD's. Unless the 2.9 A4LD has been rebuilt to 4.0 standards, it has the potential to go out sooner than expected.
