my dad was driving the explorer the other day and the tranny blew. i was wondering what type it had the a4ld or the 4r70. also if anyone knows where i can get one at a really reasonable price i would appreciate it. the transmission doesnt need to be heavy duty, the truck basically gets driven to and from work, thats it. thanks

Your truck has the 4R55E tranny, which is an electronic version of the A4LD. The 4R70 trans is used only in the V8 Explorers (I think yours is too early for that, I think 96 was the first year for the V8).

yea its just got the v6 in it. do any of you know of a good and relatively cheap rebuilt tranny for it. oh and thanks for the help on the identification too.

I got these two links from past threads on this board, but I don't have any first hand experience with either one of them

Rebuilt Transmission

Level Ten

Also, this is a good link for parts and manuals, but they don't offer rebuilds

Makco distributing

You may want to just ask some friends in your local area, so you don't have to ship a tranny and your core back and forth. There should be some guys with experience rebuilding these things, based on the number of people on the board who have had problems ;)

thanks for the help
