Trans Compatable?

just before i drive 3hrs to get the wrong trans.

I have a 98 4x4 Auto SPORT

a 97 4x4 Auto regular explorer Trans WILL or WILL NOT fit?

is there a tag on the trans that says if its a 5r55e or what ever it is? There isnt a diff tranny used in the sport correct?

The 97 has an extra sensor, but you don't have to connect it. There is no plug for that sensor on a 98 anyway.

so other than that the trans are the same?

Check the numbers on the range sensor to see if they are the same. I think the 98 might be different, but only you could confirm this.
