Well went back to work so my Explorer (cancer) rust opperation thread is on hold.
New problem has came up. Trans cooler is leaking. I purchased a new heavy duty cooler today and will be instaling tomorrow.

Questions for this topic is will a heavy duty/ oversized cooler work properly with the a4ld seeing as how the cooler is aftermarket, and im wondering if and/or how to install a temp guage for the trans? Questions might seem to be silly but im just looking for opinions and help from all you pros around the forum.

Thanks to all that can help,
Adam

If it stops raining tomorrow I will try to get a few pics of how I did my 93. Seams to work okay so far but then again we have not had the 100 plus weather yet so that when it will really tell.

Hey, thanks. i appreciate the help. Yeah only reason i want a trans temp guage is because in the summertime after doing construction all i day, i come home and pull a 5X8 heavy duty trailer with a 48" zero-turn and work my own lawn care ccompany. I'm aware the A4LD is weak to overheating and want to keep a temp reading.

BUMP.....:wavey: anyone?

I googled 'transmission temperature gauge' and found a B&M kit with all the goodies and shipping for $48 on amazon. Looks like you just tee into a line and add a sensor. Sunpro for $40, also amazon, includes shipping. I'm not sure I would trust anything cheaper. I guess I would do whatever maintenance I could, adjust bands, so forth. Someone else can maybe tell me what usually dies on the trans? I read somewhere to avoid overdrive, I'd like to hear more about that if someone has a few minutes?

Looked at your pic, nice clean truck. I'm waiting for the ugliest explorer contest myself.

Hey thanks a lot. Yeah ive owned the truck about five years, put 70,000 miles on her and haad that damn trans rebuilt 3 times in that period of time and miles. ive grown older and wiser on how i should treat her now. Take it easy to seein as how i found out it has 270,000 miles not the 170,000 i thught. With O/D i use it all the time unless im pulling my trailer. I noticed when not in O/D it seems to have a different shift pattern an holds the RPM's a little longer.

She looks good from the doors up only after this winter. The rockers and dogleggs are shot. I have a thread on fixing all the rust as well. "The cancer operationon the "Eddie". If and or when i do the trans temg gug=age i think ill purchase the a-piller guagge pods, if they make them for an X.

Thanks again for the help an insite,
Adam

Damn that sucks man.....Is yours a two door? Its going to be hard to find 2-door body parts. I had a 92 2door i pickd up for $500 that had only 75,000 origanl miles, spotless inside. I was hopeing to get body panels for it and fix her up but found out after two months of searching i ouldnt find any. It sucked but i mad $1500 off of it after i cleand the outside the best i could and hid the rust back under the chrome strip running down the side. Oh well tho. Its part of nature to see rust on our older vehicles.

I'm not sure if this is a problem or opportunity. I'd love to need a reason to buy a welder and learn to do body work 'the right way'. The truck has a lot going for it, it is functional in every aspect, the interior looks too clean for the rest of the truck, and under 85k miles. I'm waiting on my next paycheck to force a decision.

Hell yeah man. It would be sweet to bring new life into a great truck. Cut out that rust and make the outside look like new. Its fun to. To go from something rusty and falling apart to a something like a new vehicle. I love doing body work.
