By the way I'm pretty sure the hard gasket like plastic I was concerned with in the old torque converter was the gasket that goes on the bell housing shaft (#178 in the pics above, I think) since it was missing. That was the original reason I went to get the other TC. I know my parts terminology is bad...

Good articles. Pretty sure this is my situation... pump on the newer bell housing wont turn because when I misaligned and ran it to get the fluid circulating I jacked it up/locked it. The older bellhousing pump works with the new TC so I'm changing the BH w/ pump and putting on the new TC.

rebuilt a4ld

I put in a rebuilt a4ld transmission which worked fine for about 4 miles. I then lost all gears. I think the pump cratered on me because when I pulled off a cooler line to see if it was pumping, I had no flow. I had checked flow prior to test run to determine if my new cooler was hooked up in the proper direction and all was well. My question is could I have damaged the pump from manhandling the tranny on installation even though it slid together with little effort in the end and if I did, would it have worked in the beginning? I have not spoke to the shop where I purchased it yet and was looking to get some feedback as to who should be accountable. me or the shop. I don't want to blame them if it was my mistake.
