Hi all,

got a weird problem on my hands, and i want to get some opinions on this:

Oct 2017 - leased a explorer limited 2.3 eco boost
Jan 2019 - 45K miles - transmission failed, ford replaced it under warranty
Sept 2020 - 96K miles - torque converter failed, service rep is suggesting the transmission should be replaced.

now, i leased the ford with full intention of buying it out at the end of the lease. extra milage over 30K is $0.25.

now the question is do i have any chance of getting it repaired under warranty/lemon law?

can i return the car without fixing it?

any other options i have?

No lemon law, car has 100k on it. Trade it in with the computer (oasis) with that record needing a new trans and you dont disclose it, you risk trouble. I think you are SOL

Welcome to the Forum.
What kind of warranty did they give you on the transmission? Was it a Motorcraft transmission? Motorcraft parts are warrantied for 2 years unlimited mileage.

Ford Motor Company announced the launch of a new warranty on Ford Genuine and Motorcraft service parts for unlimited mileage for 24 months from time of purchase or installation. ... In addition, Ford's part warranty provides customers towing reimbursement for repairs completed at any Ford or Lincoln Dealership.

Lemon law...lol, no offence but you got almost 100 thousand miles. I'd take the car to an independent machinic to have it repaired. Do you drive aggressively? Two transmission issues in less the 100K is pretty rare.

It would seem the OP is not following this thread he started. I'm still waiting for a reply to my post #3. In any case, if the replacement is not under warranty he might be able to return the Explorer after the lease but they will likely charge him for the needed repair anyway. Also, he did not state how long the lease was for. I'll try a PM.
