Hi All
I have a 1995 Explorer XLT. I was having problems with it shifting from 1St to 3Rd gear. Ya, No Second. while doing my research I came across an article which said that it could be a valve body gasket. So, I got the set and replaced them.
Everything seamed to go well, even checked the resistance on the solenoid's. But when I went to take it for a test drive. Nothing.
No drive, No reverse, no nothing. I Had to push the car back into the shop.
By the way. The only lights that are flashing is the O/D light, and it has been doing that sense I had the tranny replaced over a year ago.
Got any ideas?

Sound like you didn't put enough tranny fluid in it.

Or maybe, and this is only a guess, you fitted a gasket incorrectly and it's blocking holes.

Maybe the manual valve pin is not engaged?

PS what trouble code do you have?

In a whole year you didn't read the codes??? Flashing O/D means it is a transmission problem and a code.

One possibility is that the filter was either not installed properly or fell into the pan. If memory serves, the filter on the 4R70W is held by a little spring, not a screw, and on some brands those are very weak.

Sorry for the late reply. I was out f town working for two months.
That would be a possibility but. While removing the gaskets I marked the upper and lower gaskets before I removed the original.
Got any other ideas?

Agreed, but I have a 4R55E Transmission which is held on by a bolt.

Before I took the car to Aamco to see if they could get codes out of it. I hooked up my ODB 2. Nothing on both accounts. Tend to wonder if the computer was dead. Ironically the car starts and runs, just doesn't drive.
Anyway to test the computer?

Ok, Sorry People
I was out of town for two months working and I did not have a chance to continue working on the transmission.
While I was out of town, I left the battery disconnected to see if it was a computer glitch.
After reconnecting the battery and starting the car. Still nothing, No forward, No reverse.
Is there a way of testing the computer or does someone have a wiring diagram so I can do further test?

Did you ever check the manual valve? It is often overlooked during the VB install.

And also the filter as mentioned above. RWD filter will fit in a 4X4, but won't pick up fluid out of the deeper 4X4 pan. Missing o rings on the filter can do the same thing. Just a couple things to check.

Darn, Hated to do this but it looks like I will have to drop the pan again.
I'll have to look at the manual valve pin and while Im down there I'll check the harness.
thanks
Like I said, I hated to do this but I have no other ideas on why it's not working.

Thanks. You are properly right about the Manual Valve pin.
After pulling off the Pan and looking inside, I found that the manual pin, which should be connected with the shifting linkage was not aligned correctly.
It properly came off when I was tightening the body to the tranny and didn't notice it.
I'll let you know if that was the problem in a few days when I get it back together.
