Trans info?

I just ran across this site and I hope it can help me out, So far it seems really good. I just bought a 2000 explorer 4.0 v-6 sohc 4X4. with 102000 miles. I got it cheap and new there was an issue with the trans. I know it will not shift into second and it sound like one of the cv axels i think is popped out and grinding, you can turn the wheel slightly to the right and it will stop but the issue of not shifting is still there. Have not seen the O/D light at all I have only had it a few days and also have not been able to read the codes for the check engine light. The ? is besides the fluid, filter change is there any other possible repair that might not be a rebuild or new transmission. Thanx for any advise in advance and I am sure I will find some great info when I read more into the forums

Welcome to this forum! You need a scanner which is capable of reading transmission codes.

You probably have the 5 speed transmission (5R55E). Second gear is achieved by engaging 1st gear and the overdrive at the same time. If you don't have overdrive then you can't get second.
