1991 Explorer 4 door 4x4
I posted in another forum but thought I may get more help here.

I just purchased a 91 explorer 5speed 4x4.
I only paid $300 for it and the a/c even works. The motor sounds great started right up, no smoke, pings, smooth idle, no immediate issues with the 4.0. The only issue is the trans busted .Was this still a good buy for $300 or did i just shoot my self in the foot?
Can I use any 2.9l or 4.0l manual, 4x4 from a later model m5od bronco2, ranger or a 91-94 explorer. Is this correct? Also I believe that all b2s came with a dummy transfer case if they are 2wd...if this is correct can I still use the trans?

well, Ok then. I guess I'll move on.

Sorry, I don't know the answer to your question. If you look at the bottom of the forum only a few people check in everyday and many times it is the same people. The person that knows the answer to your question may not check in here for days or weeks, or never. Just like you, most of the people that join have a problem and have little or know knowledge about transmissions. The best thing, is use the search at the top, try many different searches and you may find what your looking for. The easiest thing is to check what model you have and get another one of the same thing. Try a salvage yard, bigger ones may have and interchange book, there was one years ago, I don't know if they even make one any more, they were very expensive and not many places bought them. If there is a book they may be able to help you

a tranny from a 2.9 or 4.0 will bolt up ...there are some reliability issues for older trannys, but they will work.
