trans part question 5r55e

ok guys , i bought a used 5r55e trans for my 2000 explorer .it was a trans out a 2001 for reference .
when the mechanic pulled the pan this piece was in the pan .

what is it??
how much should i worry about a failure now?
do i even wanna know?
the trans does work but who knows for how long .no funny sounds,shifts are good .the next large breakdown i,m gonna have to put this truck down .

i done some research and i believe i know what it is but lets see what you all come up with .i dont want to influence your best guess.
in comparison its the size of the first section of your pinky finger
