I have a leak at the rear seal in the gear box assembly connecting the rear and front drives. I presume this is the transfer case gearbox, correct? The transmission was overhauled-repaired 12.4 months ago and we are 1,000 miles beyong the 12,000 mile warranty of the transmission repair. My point is that the rear differential seal should have been replaced at time the transmission was repaired, and perhaps Ford did not take this corrective action.

Is the gearbox to which I refer actually the differential or the transmission? Mark

from your discription, it sounds like you are talking about the transfer case. It doesn't get rebuilt with the transmission.

My Transfer case is also leaking. I have not done anything to it yet, but of course, would like to correct this issue. It almost feels like the drive line is trying to seize on me after I let it sit for about an hour or so (just found the leak yesterday, and drove all day today) I just finished the oil change on my RX-7, so I will be driving that for the next few days untill I can get the transfer case issue delt with. Is there anything real finiky about replacing that seal? In the event I were forced to drive again like this, keeping it in 2WD (have only "auto, 4x4 high, & 4x4 low"), would damage to the transfer case be unavoidable, and can this make the truck undrivable all together?

Any information on this would be much appreciate. I have the kick-ass mazda 5-speed manual tranny, btw, if that makes any difference. On that note, will a transfercase from an automatic truck work on mine?

Thanks in advance for any information and help here.

~Miles
