transfer case or differential

Please pardon my ignorance -- is the transfer case the same as the differential?? Specifically -- 2006 Explorer 6-cyl, 4WD. Thanks.
 












Transfer case is the piece attached to the transmission that will send the power to the front differential and axles if required, while providing power to the rear (on explorers).

Differentials are the "center" pieces, or pumpkins on you axles, or more specifically, what's inside. They compensate for different speeds of the wheels when turning.

So the answer is no.
