I am planning to change the Transfer Case fluid at my next oil change and I have a simple, almost ignorant, question. I was looking at the T-Case and found the drain plug, but where is the fill plug? I saw a plug similar plug on the upper right hand corner of the T-Case. Is that it?

I have a 1997 X 4x4 Control Trac if that helps.

Thanks guys. :redexp:

Yup, that's it. The plugs look identical.

Cool, Thanks.

I just called my wonderful Ford dealer, they want $85 to drain/fill the Transfer case. LOL. What a joke.

When I change my oil soon I guess I will be doing the transfer case as well. :D

Yeah, it's easy to do yourself, but you'll probably need one of those little pump spouts that screws onto the top of the fluid bottle. It's tought to get fluid into that upper hole in the t-case. Mobil 1 ATF just happened to have the widemouth bottle that fits with the pump spouts available, so it made it easy to switch it to synthetic. The spout was like 3 or 4 bucks at autozone.

How much was the Mobil 1 ATF? My T-Case holds 2.5 pints according to factory service, so I only need 2 quarts.

It was like $5 a quart. Not bad since you only have to change it every 100k miles.
