I have a 96 4.0 automatic trans, so engaged my 4x4 today to get out of a rough spot at the fishing hole, and it went to jumping and banging, Im curious to what you think it may be? Im saying the chain is slipping, because it feels like its slipping in and out of 4x4 like the tires grap and turn and then stop then go then stop guessing thats where the banging sound is coming from, i know its coming out of the transfercase as the noise is in that general area. Im trying to figure out in my head is it worth it to pull down and repair the chain or should i say screw it and send it on to the next guy, Im not looking to drop alot of money in it, ive already put to much in it now lol. Also im running 31x 10.50 tires not sure if this would effect the transfer case any.
