Transfer case swap, Electric to manual

Hi everyone it's been a while since i've been here so i'll get to the point. What i'm trying to find out is if i can use a 1354 manual transfer case out of a 92 with a 4.0 automatic and put it in place of my 1354 electric in a 97 4.0 5 speed? the reason i'm asking is because i can't seem to find any info on the splines, if they are the same or not. I found a pretty good deal on a manual transfer case for $100 and am tired of the problems with the electric shift BULLSH*T. I already have manual hubs and it would be so much better to just install a manual transfer case also, and for $100 you can't beat it that's with shifter, linkage and all...Any info would be greatly appreciated. I'm sure it has been covered in this forum somewhere but i'm pressed for time and i have to do the swap tomorrow 11-05-2006 because it's back to work monday and i don't get another day off for quite a while. I work 2 jobs...Snow's coming soon i need it fixed. Thanks in advance for you're patience and information.

Yes it will work

Make sure you get the whole shifter assembly from the donor vehicle. You might also want to get the floor plate, and shifter boot. Not sure if it the plate will bolt right up or not, but it would at least be a good pattern. Pick up some rtv to use between the trann and tc. you will want to swap the speed sensor from your tc to the new one, be careful, sometimes the bolt is frozen, may want to soak it in PB before you try to remove it. Let me know if you need anymore help.

Thanks I already have everything soaking in PB Blaster that stuff's the bomb...I'm gonna go pick up the rest of the parts in the morning, i'll let ya know how it turns out.

Well, yes, you can put the 13-54 in the 97, but it's not in place of the 13-54. The 97 was built with a 44-05. Many have done the swap. There's plenty of info on here to get you going. A quick search for '13-54 swap' will turn up more than you could want to know.

Well gijoecam my 97 had a 13-54 in it and is now a manual 13-54. The swap went well it only took about 2 hours and am very pleased with the results...Thanks for the input guys...Ohh by the way mine is a 97 B4000..Not sure if that has anything to do with it having a 13-54 in it or not from the factory

AACK!! I missed the fact that it's a Ranger.... I forget that not everybody around here is driving an Explorer!

Ignore what I said.... As you already discovered, the auto to manual 1354 swap is no biggie.

Glad to hear you got it in and everything is ok. You didn't post last night and I was worried that it wasn't going to get done by the time you had to go to work.

Do your 4wd lights work like they did before?

No the lights dont work at all now but i dont care cause im the only one that drives this rig anyway...im gonna put in a new gem for the dome light and like i said im not worried about the lights on the dash telling me if its in 4X4 or not. never had it on any of my old wheelers...lol

It should, but you have to ask it nicely

Please just search or get a repair manual. Its very straight forward, just pull the old tc and put in the new one. What more are you looking for?

I know your lookign for help. I'm not being mean here, sorry you took it that way. I'm just saying that it has been covered here many times before. Its aslo a very easy swap. They came as an option for them, therefore its made to go there all you have to do is remove the old one and put the new one in its place.
