transfer case will not go into 4X4 low

I have a 1996 explorer that will not go in to 4X4 low. The auto works great but when i putt the switch to low the light wont come on and nothing happens. please help. thanks

But for the most part, I wouldn't worry about the vehicle not being able to go into 4LO cauz 4LO only gives you torque and maybe better throttle control -- not really traction (unless you're the wheel spinning in the snow type but thats more of a finesse problem with the right foot ). There have been multiple cases on this forum where going into 4LO just lead to problems like not being able to get out of it -- and personally, I would rather have a vehicle that can only go to 4HI (and no 4LO) than a vehicle thats stuck in 4LO.
