Have been having transmission problems with slipping. 1999 Sport with the 4.0 SOHC engine and 51000 miles. I have been using a dealer for repairs that I trust. Had the seperator plate replaced and the valve body gaskets. Still slipping. Had them drive it on Tuesday and they made me an appointment for Thursday to check the bands and the servos - said they were fine but did replace the plate again and the gaskets at no charge.Picked it up last night and so far seems to be shifting just fine. I guess my question is if this does not work should I go for a rebuild instead of putting more money into this one. They gave me a price on a remanufactured transmission from Ford with a 3yr/36000 warranty of $2400.00 installed-good or bad ? What is the difference between rebuilt or remanufactured ?
Thanks for any advice in advance.

51,000 is NOT a lot of miles. If the problem is just low pressure (separator plate and gasket replacements says that loud and clear) don't rebuild, FIX. Maybe Opera House can add here, he is the resident Trannie guru, and knows his stuff.

Thanks for the reply Glacier. Just a update , I put on about 50 miles today and it seems to shift just fine. Opera House if you have any thing to add it would be appreciated. Thanks.

At least one member here has had luck in replacing the EPC solenoid (Electronic Pressure Control), to cure flaring/slipping shifts. The EPC is constantly working and adjusting the pressure, so maybe it wears out quickly......???
