I tow cars regularly with my Ford Explorer, and I know that the 91-94's (mines a 94 XLT) are notorious for transmission trouble. Should I add on a transmission cooler to extend the life of my transmission? Just curious.

yes.. also i would invest on more frequent intervals of tranny flushes and filter changes as well as only towing in drive, dont use the od when towing

Excellent advice.

a remote filter is a nice add on too.

I just found a wrecked '94 with a factory tranny cooler (for install on my '96). If you're into visiting junk yards, you might find a wreck with the factory cooler and lines. Then, it's just a simple R&R (remove and replace). You might want to consider a remote filter and tranny temp gauge, too.

By all means add a tranny cooler and as was mentioned above, a remote filter is a nice touch as well as a tranny temp gauge. Another good practice would be to flush the tranny and then switch to synthetic ATF.

Good luck.
