I have a 1998 Explorer, 4.0/auto trans. Driving in San Francisco involves a lot of up and down steep hills. Often I will pull the shift lever into 1st or 2nd to slow vehicle when I am going down a hill! Recently transmission quit engaging when I did this, and now free wheels, offering no slowing (compression resistance) when going down hills! Trans works fine otherwise, shifting up or down as normal! Is there maybe a one way clutch giving trouble? I am not familiar with these newer transmissions, being more involved with 60's-70's era productions.
