I have an 2003 Ford Explorer XLT with 107,000 miles on it. To my knowledge the trans fluid has never been replaced. Should I get a flush or just a fluid change? Hearing a lot of horror stories of 100,000+ flushes. Also is changing the filter a must? Thanks for any input.

My '04 Owners Manual says no fluid change for life of transmission, or if leak develops. Seems to me 100K is good "life" for a transmission. What I would do, is drain fluid, remove oil pan, inspect it inside for signs of wear material; check on the magnet, also (if equipped). If pan is pretty clean, just replace filter and put in new fluid. If metal chips are visible, or lots of dirt, consider getting it flushed. However, flushing MIGHT do more harm than not flushing, hard call. IMO, if trans. is working properly, and no foreign material present, just replace fluid. imp
