Transmission Going out?

is my transmission going out? it has a hard time reversing you have to sit in reverse gear and put in the gas a little till it grabs and when im in drive or overdrive the rpms are really high its almost into the red line when im going about 55.


if i have to replace the transmission what the cheapest way to go, i plan on doing the work myself.

i have a 92 ford explorer eddie bauer 4x4 auto trans

Did you check the fluid level? When was the last time the fluid & filter were replaced? How many miles does it have?

the fluid level is fine and i just changed the filter and fluid last summer when i put a new engine in but it was doing the same thing even before, and it has about 148 thousand

You could rebuild the valve body, and see if it helps. If it doesn't, then it might be time to rebuild the whole thing.
