Hi guys, my Explorer since I got it from my grandpa has had an engine leak. About a year ago a transmission leak appeared and now I need to know what to replace to stop both leaks. I live in Costa Rica so I have to be quite sure to know which spare parts I have to buy on the internet. It is a 93' XLT 5speed manual.

1) Transmission leak: it appears to come from the upper part of the transmission leaking over both sides of the tranny. Could it be the shifter bushing gone bad or a slave cylinder malfunction? Also lately (about 2 weeks ago) the car experienced something wrong on the clutch. The symptom is that when depressed, going into 1st or reverse is too difficult, like it doesn't want to engage the gear. You have to do it very hard so the gear is engaged. Also, after you engage the gear and you raise the clutch there is no clutch travel. None. About 1/4 of an inch. I don't know if this has to do with the tranny being empty of oil or the slave cylinder (which my mechanic didn't replace when he installed the Luk clutch kit about a year ago) malfunctioning.

2) Engine leak: I really don't know how to make a description from this leak. It appears to come from the back of the engine like where the carter meets the engine block and the transmission.

I do have photos, I'm trying to solve how to put them in the forum.

Thank you very much!!

I am 99% sure the transmission leak is the rubber plugs on the back of the shift tower. It's the only thing I can think of that can leak from the top. You would smell it if it was from the shifter. The best fix is to get metal freeze plugs. I forget the size, but you can find it online. Its a common problem. The shifting problems are a bad slave cylinder. You should replace the master too. When the tyranny is down, replace the engine rear main seal. It is possibly the engine oil leak. The other thing is the oil pan gasket. You need to lift the engine for that though.
