Transmission overheats in traffic

My 1006 ford exporter Eddie Bauer 4wd has 43,000 miles. It recently has started to overheat when stopped in traffic. does anyone know about this problem?

if its overheating while in traffic then it would indicate a cooling system failure. Just to be clear your saying the transmission is overheating or is the engine overheating?

I would say engine since there is no temperature indicator for the transmission. And being an '06 I would say that the cooling system has sprung a leak.
