Transmission problem/question b/c of wreck

About 20 minutes ago my transmission started screwing up! It will not change gears unless I release the accelerator for about 5 seconds. This occurs every time it needs to change gears. The fluid was changed about 15 thousand miles ago and the fluid level and color is fine. It has 139000 miles on it. Is it shot??

Also I was rear-ended two nights ago. I was stopped and a kid hit me going about 40 miles/hour. Could this accident be the cause of the sudden onslaught of transmission problems???

I just got back from a transmission shop and he thinks it might be a modulator valve or something like that. I got a new one and will try to replace it soon. Any advice??
