I have a 1996 EB 6 cyl 4 door. Yesterday transmission died. I had the transmission repaired in 2003, at that time when I had the problem, the only gear that would not work was drive. Now none of the gears work. If I rev the engine it will go very slowly in the gear, both forward and reverse. I noticed that when I put it in park, it runs VERY ROUGH. Because I am a single woman I do not want to go to a shop and have someone rip me off. Any info as to what is wrong, is it entire transmission or could it be some other related problem. thank you in advance.

Sounds like you have an engine and a trans problem. Is the check engine light on or does the OD light flash?

no check engine light and the od light flashed only after I really reved engine to get it off of the road. When I restarted it to get it on the tow truck, no lights.

When the OD light flashed the computer stored a transmission code, you need to get the code read, not all OBD2 code readers can read manufacture pacific transmission codes. The code is needed as it is a starting point for the trans problem.

thank you, i will get code read. do you think that i will need entirely new transmission?

Get the code, then possible that question can be answered.

No codes, is it time to buy a new car or do you think that this is a repairable transmission problem.

When the OD light flashes a code was stored, if you didn't disconnect the battery it is still in the computer. Whoever tried to read the DTC code didn't have the proper code reader.
