We are experiencing some problems with our Explorer. Below are the exact specs of the vehicle:
Year: 2000
Engine: 4.0 SOHC
Transmission: 5 Speed Auto
Drivetrain: 4x4
We are experiencing some problems that seem to be getting worse. The vehicle does tow a 2500 lb boat a lot. The fluids have been changed, transmission flushed about every 30,000 miles.
The problems we are experiencing are as follows.
1. When shifting into drive or reverse, there is a lag, sometimes over 5 seconds, before it shifts into gear. Stepping on the gas before it gets into gear results in a thunk as it shifts into gear.
2. When shifting into 3rd gear, the transmission often has a delayed or strange shift. When accelerating, it sometimes revs an additional 1000 rpm before it shifts into gear.
This happens, when both towing and not towing.
The dealer has not been able to find the problem.
Any suggestions??
