2002 Explorer Eddie Bauer
Hey guys. I have a 2002 Eddie Bauer V8. my motor had spun a bearing so i went ahead and put another 4.6 in there. My problem is that everything is lined up, and bolted in. The engine runs and starts fine, but put it into gear and it doesn't even attempt to do anything. doesn't seem like slipping or we don't smell anything burning. We don't think we lost a whole lot of fluid. Reverse lights come on when put into reverse, and if I am holding the gas, and put it into drive then the RPM's come down a little bit, but go back up after a couple of seconds. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

Make sure the 4.6 came out of a 02 Explorer not a later model because the engine might lineup but the are different. Part numbers on the engines from 02-05 are different. You need to make sure the tag on your old engine matches the one you put in the truck. I believe the 04-05 had drive by wire setups unlike on 02-03 which had accerator cables.

The motor that came out had a build date of 03/12/02, and the one that went in has a build date of 06/02, don't remember the exact date

Looking at fords website they offer 3 different trans. I believe their is a difference between 2 wheel and 4 wheel drive. The other thing is that Ford has 2 different 4.6 for 02 and each have different engine tags. It looks like you got the earlier 4.6 from the factory and they changed something mid year possibly because the engine tag is different.

I do know that the torque convertor bolted up just fine to the flywheel, and the transmission bolted to the motor, so i'm just assuming that everything should be ok, right, both motors looked identical

The base block and bolt patterns are they same it could be the elctronics that are doing it.

I did fine out that in 02 Roll Stability Control was an option and that could be an issue to.
