Ok, here's the situation. My transmission was going out, so I bought one that had about 1,000 miles on it. My explorer: 4x4, 4 door
The explorer that the transmission came from: 2x4, 2 door

What it looks like to me is that all I need to do to make it work is take the back section (that looks like a cone) off and connect the back section from mine (that connects to the transfer case) and put it on the other transmission. Does anybody know if this will work? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Also, any tips on disconnecting the upper transmission cooling line? It's not very accesible.

That is exactly what you have to do, change the tailshaft onto the new transmission.

I know on th manual trannies the output shaft is different between the 2wd and 4wd. Atfter you remove both tailshaft housings, compare the exposed parts of the tranny output shaft to ensure they are the same length.
