Hello Forum Members!

I am a newbie to the Forum, though I have read and enjoyed the comments for some while. So this is just to introduce myself and ask if anyone has come across the problem of reverse lamps stuck on. Is the renewal of the gear position sensor the only option on auto boxes, or will a gently applied hammer, as the sensor appears to be some kind of plastic, help?

Regards,

Andy.

Try a gentle tap with a hammer but in the end you may just have to replace it. Not come across it before but all things are possible.

Thanks Howard,

I crawled underneath and tried a gentle tap or two and have been operting the gear shift linkage but to no avail so far! So have removed the bulbs and will use it for a couple of days to see if it frees itself. If not a visit to RockAuto`s site will be on the cards.

Cheers,

Andy.

You may have to destroy the sensor in order to get it off -- that sensor (TRS: Transmission Range Sensor) is a pain to remove.

Thanks for the comments and advice. The sensor appears to be working in all other respects, not allowing the engine to be started except in "N" & "P"etc. It would be interesting to have an explode diagram of the sensor to see how the "innards" work. Must be some sort of broken or sticking switch device in there. I see that the lamps are fed by a purple/black cable and a cable of that colour emerges from the connector block on the sensor. I will try Howards advice and put a meter on the switch tomorrow to see if that will shed any light on the subject!

Regards,

Andy
