My '94 Ex is having an issue shifting to second, and after looking throughthr forums I have figured it might be this. Is there any way to check this without removing half of my exhaust? I live just south of lake Michigan and we use a lot of salt here, there's not much left of the bolts on my CAT and exhaust pieces.
I am also open to any other ideas, and will post pics if anyone has another idea and can write it up for me.
Thanks,
PR

If you get desparate enough you can cut a hole in the floor boards over the modulator and take it out the top, then repair and reseal the hole using your own devises silicone etc.could be easier than dealing with rusted exhast. Elbow

I paid a local shop to install it for $100. Worth every penny!

Truck ran great after replacing the tranny modulator valve.

Good luck!

Hey man there is a access plat in the trans hump when you pull the carpet back. Four bolts hold it down. changed mine when i noticed my oil getting higher and trans. fluid going down. very easy fix just dont loose the little metal pin that sits in the valve.

Right... Nothing to cut, there's an access panel on the hump, as mentioned. This is roughly where a stick shift would go. Easiest to remove the front passenger seat and pull back the carpet.

As mentioned, the first thing to do is check the vac line at the tree on the engine. If the modulator is bad, there will be ATF in that line. If not, you probably have a different problem.

Do some searching here, this has been well covered.

BTW, Welcome to the site!

Mike

I have this one.

Welcome to this forum! Check the vacuum line for leaking transmission fluid. Does it stick only when it's cold? If so, then it could have a sticking governor.

Is there a way to unstick the governor without taking the trans apart? My X doesn't want to come out of first until about 35mph when cold, shifts perfectly after driving a couple miles.

supposedly there is access through the front cabin hump got to take seats out and carpet to find the panal on the hump i think you still have to remove the exhaust shield im trying to find out if there is loss of vac rather than shift problems

11 year old thread. The Odds of the OP actually seeing your response is pretty low, since they haven't been back, since that post in 2010. Just a "Little" late to the party
