I have a 2010 STA, and when I'm approaching a red light or stop sign, the tranny seems to "jump" a little as I am approaching a full stop....

I also used to own a 2008 ST Limited with the same 4.6/6 spd tranny combo, and that one did the same thing right off the lot... a lot more violently I might add...

I remember bringing my truck in to have it checked out in 2008 and I was told it was a common issue and they had Engineers from Ford looking in to this...

my 2010 STA appears to be doing the same thing, not as bad as my 2008, but it is still happening nonetheless.

Anyone else experiencing this??

I suggest scheduling an appointment with your dealer for diagnosis, CanAdrenalin. Then, please fill me in with the details, including your full name, dealer information, best daytime contact number, and a current odometer reading; I'll see what I can do to help.

Thanks Brittany... This is a real concern of mine as it was an issue I was expecting to encounter, but never had it rectified.

I will keep you posted.

Technical service bulletin. If any come back with that it is a common known issue that the software may fix the shifting issues and shutter. Im not sure which one it is but there are tons of posts about it. All they do is flash it and ding you a half hour shop time if its out of warranty. These transmissions are computer controlled. you should see all the solenoids and wires on the valve body when you pull the pan to change the filter. It actually adapts to your driving style. You can also try pulling the battery cables for 15 minutes to reset the shift patterns. Some times that is a temporary fix.

According to NOTE 4 disconnecting the battery will not resent the Transmission Control Module(TCM) Keep Alive Memory(KAM).

This is very interesting and I'm glad you posted it... I have a 2010 STA but this bulletin seems to apply to 07-08 ST....

FordServiceCA, would you like to chime in here?

ALSO... I have extended warranty that was applied to my vehicle upon purchase (I purchased it back in February with 90,000km - Warranty until 120,000 or November 2015)...

Would this be covered???

I'll stick with what I said in my last post, CanAdrenalin: I suggest reaching out to your dealer as soon as possible regarding the diagnosis/repair and the coverage. As they're independently owned and operated, coverage and costs sometimes vary, so it is best to speak to them about it.

Please let me know once you've had the service department of your local dealer diagnose, and let me know of the outcome. Doing so is the first step toward reaching a resolution. :)

Have a great day!

Hi Brittany,

Glad you've decided to get involved with this issue of mine from the start. My truck is currently at the dealer and they will be performing a re-calibration on the transmission.

Considering I have extended service protection, there should be no charge for this. Is there any way you can confirm this for me? This issue is a very real issue with the transmission and my only concern at this point is that the problem gets repaired, not at my expense.

Fine's Ford has been extremely helpful so far, and the woman at the service counter is so far the most helpful person I have ever encountered at a dealership... I hope this continues in to my warranty coverage for a significant issue such as my transmission.

You're welcome, CanAdrenalin; I'm more than happy to help! I can see what you're saying about your ESP. I actually just received your private message regarding this and sent you some resources there; if you have any other questions, just let me know and I can do some more research.

Great thread. I have this same issue and it gives me peace of mind that there is nothing mechanically wrong with the transmission. It tends to be more prevalent when I drive more aggressively.
