Hey gang,
I've been considering putting 30x9.5 M/T's on my stock '93 XLT. I have heard the treadlife isn't too good. I do a lot of driving around town (clients - showing houses) but I also enjoying playing in the dirt too. Will I be better off with a BFG or Goodyear tire? Any reccomendations would be appreciated.

Why not use BFG AT KO I know that the older AT's lasted well over 35,000 miles. Not only do they last i would put them on OVER BFG MT's. I think they perform JUST as well if NOT BETTER than MT's
I know thats my opnion.

Jon,

If you've never rode in a vehicle with mud tires I would suggest you do before you consider using them on yours. They are definitely louder than any A/T you'll use. They do perform much better in the mud than the A/T's, and usually better on the rocks also.

In general, any mud tire will not last as long as an all-terrain. Your choice depends on what's important to you -- the look, on and off road performance, comfort, noise level, and longevity.

I've been running Bridgestone Dueler M/T's for about 10 months and 20K miles and I like them a lot. They perform similarly to the BFG M/T's, although I think they're rubber compound is just a bit stickier and they're a little quieter on the highway. If you don't plan on doing much serious offroading, I'd stick with the A/T's of your choice. But if you like the look and offroad performance of the muds, and don't mind putting up with the drawbacks, go that way.

The only Goodyear tire that I would try would be the new Wrangler MT/R, which hasn't been released yet. I think the other Goodyears are a cut below the BFG's and other name brand tires. Fun fact: Did you know that BFG is now owned by Michelin?

The Bridgestone Dueler A/T is another possibility. I ran three sets on my rig before I did the lift and added the muds. They easily last over 50K miles and ride very well.

Good luck with your choice.

Guys,
Thanks for your help. Many projects about to be launched on the truck in the next 60 days, and now I have a great idea for tires. The balance of the tasks will be stereo, headers, filter box holes, wires and plugs, and Rancho 5000 shocks. This should get me well under way! (I hope)
