So today I decided to tackle my leaking valve cover gaskets on my 2002 4.0 Explorer XLS. I was sure I would be able to do it and dove in excited to do this repair. I took some digital photos of where everything was hooked up and proceeded to take things apart. I got the EGR tube loose and as a matter of fact, off the whole way without breaking it. Removing the right front tire and inner fender helps very much with this part of the job. I then proceeded to loosen the intake bolts and in the process broke three torx bits. I had one more in my tool box and did not chance breaking it so I just put everything back together. The driver side rear two bolts are nearly impossible to remove and I'm sure if I would have had help to remove the hood I would have had a better view of their location. I will give it another try on another day but for now I have given up.
