I am going to a larger set-up on my explorer, and didn't want to just start sawing away at my fenders. I think I will have to cut about 1.5"-2" off.
Any info on how to do this, without making it look like crap?

sawzall or jigsaw. add fender flares for the cleanest look.

if you still want metal edge make your mark with a pencil or eraseable marker andmake you cut with at least 1/2" metal more than your finished openeing. then cut up your half inch to your marked line. come back with pliers and bend each little tab. you will more than likely crack the paint so if you score the line with an exacto knife first you can minimise damage. i would tape off edge and prime and paint the corner. using this method you can retain your stock fender well liner.

you mean 1/2" less?

nope. you want 2" more opening for tire clearance then cut off 1.5" - leaving .5" more than your intended opening. bend that .5" as a tab to create a flange/lip for the fender well liner to bolt to. make sense?

I used a cutting wheel on a grinder. Worked much better than a saxzall IMO.
