My brothers 97 ranger v6 check engine light is on and this is the code that came up p0131. chiltons says the upstream heated 02 sensor circuit low voltage (bank 1). is this a way of saying the 02 sensor is going bad or is it much more complicated than that. He was also told that bank 1 is running lean. Im trying to help him keep the cost down to parts so any help would be greatly appreciated. He needs to get it smogged n with the check engine light on,you know... i told him about the forum and the great help its been and i will be getting him to become a member. again thanks. oh and he tells me that the check engine light goes off for a while then comes back on.

If it's coming and going it's most likely a bad sensor. It's on the pass side between the engine and cat. I think it should be 7/8th. Spray it with PB Blaster a couple days beforehand and you should be able to thread it out. I have no idea how hard it is to access on a Ranger.
