I have '94 EX five speed, 4x4. After just starting it when it's been sitting for awhile it shifts fine no problems at all but after driving it around town awhile it gets harder and harder to shift. I was wondering if it was the clutch giving me this problem or the slave or master cylinders. Your feedback is appreciated.

I had the same trouble after 150,000 miles. Only happened when hot and in heavy traffic, usually just going into 1st gear. The synchros wear out and I had to have the trans overhauled.

It was fine for 1 1/2 years and then started getting hard to shift again. This time I drained the trans oil and replaced it with Mobil 1 synthetic ATF. At first it was really hard to shift and I thought I had wrecked the trans, but after a mile or so, it got better. Its not perfect like new, but it shifts better with the synthetic ATF. I'm not sure why; maybe the synthetic ATF helps the trans run cooler. The manual tranny, surprisingly, does get hot. If I could find a pump that would pump ATF, I'd make an external trans oil cooler!

So, before spending the bucks on an overhaul, try replacing the trans lube with synthetic ATF. If that doesn't help, try bleeding the clutch.

Good luck.
