Hi everyone,

The past few weeks here I've been having a problem that's getting progressively worse. Every morning, I go to start my truck and it will take a lot more turnovers than normal. It doesn't sound like a dead or bad battery because the starter is turning over nicely, it just takes longer than normal to start. Then, it will run rough until I can give it some gas and get going.

After that, I'm fine!

Even throughout the day it will start normally and drive like a charm as always. Any help is appreciated!

could be a lot of things, bad gas, dirty fuel injectors, clogged fuel filter, dirty tps, dirty maf sensor,ect.. probably something simple, Someone else may have a better answer...Doesn't sound serious though if it runs good after it warms up...

It may be my filter. I've had the car for over 2 years and put 50k+ miles on it. Also, who knows the last time it was replaces before that.

could be if it needs to be replaced anyways start there

Helpful Hint:
Hi cpumatt - Put your Engine (SOHC or OHC) and Particular Trans (M5OD or Auto)
in your SCREEN NAME PROFILE - it will greatly help us help you in the future ;-)

As to regards to your problem, I'd start "easy" with the often overlooked fuel filter as previous poster poker4me007 suggested. It's big as a tank, and thus many owners (and shops) never think they need replacing.

For giggles, when I've replaced mine, I've drained the INPUT side into a clear glass jar - you won't believe the crud what comes out... It's at that point when you realize how important this filter is to your engines overall health.

TEST: Try this next time you cold start your Ex.

Turn the ignition key clockwise to the point to where all the instrument lights light up and it's right before "start", and leave the key in that position for about 10-15 seconds - That will allow the electric fuel pump to start and build up line pressure.

After 10-15 seconds, then crank the key to the start position. Report back if there is any difference. It the results are positive - start with replacing the fuel filter with a new MOTORCRAFT fuel filter. Don't go cheap on the fuel filter!

Hope that helps -

This is what my fuel filter poured out after typically 500 miles...The tank and the truck sat for 2 + years with half a tank of fuel in it before I bought the truck and dropped the tank and even had it cleaned out by a radiator shop...And this rust and stuff was on the inlet side from the tank and it would drop the fuel pressure and the engine would run like crap when the throttle was opened for speed...This is no joke... I bought a new tank to fix this problem...Of course I also tried a "clean" used tank as well... BAD IDEA....
