I am still having problem with my new '02 with only 2000 miles on it. It only happens like once a week. When it does happen its after the car has been sitting for about an hour and a half to two hours. The engine will jsut crank for like 3-4 secs, so i back off. I try again and it takes like 4 seconds and then it starts. I told the service guys to check the starter and they said it is fine. What can it be that it happens so in frequent but when it does its always under the same circumstances?

what engine is it?

Could be a sensor that isn't working right. I'm assuming that you aren't getting a check engine light?

If you are under warrenty, I would take it in and let Ford dealer scan for codes and try to duplicate the problem.

It also occurs to me that it could be my favorite starting/ idling problem that doesn't set any codes: the infamous IAC valve. If you do a search using IAC you will find a bunch of info.
