Does anyone know what would cause my truck to shut off while driving? Then the other problem is when I go to try to start it it tries to start but wont crank over I will let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes then starts right up and on my way I go!!. Another thing that I have noticed is when i turn the key to the on position not try to start the only thing that shows up on the guage is the battery light. once the engine light comes on aI am able to start it weird I know doesnt happen every day but at least twice or more a week. Also when I run into the store for like five minutes after driving it for 10 minutes ill come back out try to start bam nothing it just makes the noise like it wants to start so i wait for the check engine light to come on starts right up if anyone could help with this I would appreciate it. Thank you.

so is the engine turning over but its not starting, or is it just clicking and not turning the engine over?

sometimes fuel pumps and coils can make the engine quit running and not start until it sits for a few mins

Sounds like there may be a bad EEC relay. Check the relay for the EEC, and the fuel pump.

The fact that there is no check engine light when it doesn't start, means the computer isn't turning on when you try to start it, hence why it doesn't start. The CEL is an indicator that the computer is on and functional.

thanks for the info my truck does try to turn over with enough power it just wont fully start up unitl it has sat and the check engine light comes on this has been happening for awhile. so if it is a bad fuel pump could it still run for months and months and the same with a bad eec relay?

I am betting on the Fuel Pump relay.. When I first bought my 'X' that was the owners issue. It would cut out for no reason. By the time the tow truck would get it to a mechanic. It started right up. I replace both the Fuel Pump relay and the EEC relay
(for good measure) it's been 120,000miles later....problem gone.
