truck thinks its running hot? UPDATE

so i have a 07 st with 63000 mile v-8 with a new radiator (old one had a crack)
and have been pulling ower kiwi 23 b travel trailer ( 4800 pounds fully loaded) on camping trips. and have been watching the temp gauge witch sets at the bottom of the little thermometer icon on the temp gauge. and for the most part it stay right there right around 212 deg f. but some times even at low speeds say 45 mph. the temp gauge shoots up over the normal range and the i can hear the fan kick in then just as fast the temp gauge gos down to normal and the fan quiets down

this weekend i was pulling and it was warm out so i turned on the air and with in 10 sec the temp gauge pegged out. and we were only doing about 45 mph
so i turned off the air and the temp gauge went back down. again with in 10 sec. at no time did i notice any bubbling or popping sounds or was the over flow bottle full. so is it realling over heating or do it just think that it is.
perhaps its a bad sending unit? any thoughts or ideas on this would be great
we are taking a long trip in august ( 4 hour drive) and its bound to be hot:eek:

So the truck went in to the ford dealer and have found the problem. Its the top temp sensor like I thougnt there is a 40 deg diff in the coolent and the gauge reading the jobis going toabout 670+ they haveto take the intake manafold off. Ouch!

That's my thinking but I don't know if this was happening before rad change

Try changing the thermostat, and burp the system when you have the housing off. Should be able to kill 2 birds with one stone if either is the problem. keep a real close eye when your changing the thermostat for leaks on the housing. From my experience they just love to do that.

thanks for the info.. will do... ill keep you all up to date on all this .. now just need to fix that abs light

truck gos in to the shop on friday.... More to come stay tuned

from what my guys says it looks like its the coolent temp senser. parts have been ordered. ( hope this is what will fix) system is full and thermostat is fine.
and the abs and traction control light problem is right front speed senser. and 3rd brake light is out. but last owner as siliconed the lens to the truck and cant get if off with out braking it now i need a new one of those . my day not going well

problem still not solved... the quest continues ST gos to a new shop on Tuesday. More that likely that its the temp sending unit. and its under the intake manifold and was more work that my (semi retired ) mechanic wanted to do. as this last week as gone on its taking less and less time (about 10 min) or less to make the temp gauge peg out.( no motor in the world heats up that fast). Will now more on Tuesday

the saga continues first off on the abs light. it was the right front speed sensor at 198.89
and now for the fun part. the temp gauge problem. THEY DONT KNOW from what they said that there are two sensors that the computer reads from and from what they know that even if the replace both that it may not fix the problem. so they did fix that at a estimated price of 350 bucks. i just called the ford dealer as a last resort and they cant get it in till next tuesday.. uuuggg

So the ST went to the ford dealer . And they say its the rad. Now I just replaced it in may . And the dealer is 35 miles way . I drove at 70 mph for over 25 mins with the temp gauge in the red . Done you think that I should be boiling over buy the time I got there if I got there at all! Still waiting to here more from the dealer... more to come... uga
