Trying to buy a 2004 explorer xlt v6 cloth with a 3rd seat. I was wondering what are the common issues for that year. Lookinga t the druck and driving it realized that:

1- Abs and Brake light is on- Brakes work fine I guess maybe ABS dont work.
2-3rd Seat is stuck in the closed position when I tried to open the latch can not get it open. Wondering if I had to do something special to open.
3- Rust around the rear passenger side fender just bubles
4-faint ticking noise in the engine.

Any info will be helpfull.

Run! Or are you paying <2k? Seriously, you've already found enough items to let you know it's not been maintained well.

How many miles?

Ticking may just be injectors, if it's up top.
Ticking at front or back could be chains. Not too big a deal, you only have to remove the engine to fix.
ABS is common, usually just a sensor.

Runs fine only 101000 miles one owner.
Ticking from top.

2k doesn't sound like much, but a week from now you may need a transmission. Then after getting the trans fixed for $2500, a month later you'll get the timing chain rattle. After spending $2500 to get the chains fixed you'll start to get a weird roar sound on turns. Inevitably you'll change the wrong wheel bearing for $200 and have to spend another $200 to fix the side that was bad. Then cruising through the grocery store parking lot in your $7400 Ex, going over the speed bumps you'll get a funny noise, which you'll determine to be a busted coil on the rear shock. Luckily, the coil will go bad in October so you'll get 4 Monroes for the price of three ($600 dollars later.). Oh yeah, while installing the rear shocks you discover that you need a rear wheel bearing too.

Some where in this journey you'll either be back on here cursing the fact that you ever bought this 4k lbs. plus hunk of junk or wondering why after all of this you still love your Ex.

Oh, I have a '94, '04, '05 and I just bought an '03 Mounty with a bad engine.
