Hi all im new to the sight and i am looking for a cheap and easy way to raise my explorer, i read something about a "torsion twist in the front and shackles in the rear" and that was supposed to add about what i want? but is that a body lift or more suspension? (youll have to excuse me i do body work for a living but never messed with the mechanics of the rigs so my questions might be off the charts dumb) im just wondering if i can get a litle more distance between the ground and the vitals of my explorer and not spend a fortune....ive also been looking into some 16" wheels for an inch there.. thanks for reading can you help me out?

Those are suspension lifts. They'll lift the whole truck up away from the axles. Sounds like that's what you want. If you used larger wheels, you would need to change the outside diameter by 2 inches to raise the axles 1 inch.

Aren't we all.

for a second gen the torsion twist and shackles is the easiest option, and cheapest too. you could also do an add-a-leaf in the rear too, they are cheap also.

the wheel size has nothing to do with the height, its the diameter of the tires than are on the wheels, so if you lift about 2" in the front and rear, which is what you will get from the lifts you mentioned, you could easily fit 31" tires, and that should get you up as high as you want.
you might fit 32"s, but im not sure if they will squeeze in there with the lifts you mentioned.

good luck!

lol maybe i should have worded it a little differant....but thank you for the help, if i put the shackles and torsion twist lift at the 2 inch max how does it make the ride after that.

got to start somewhere right... and i rebuild wrecked cars and trucks for a living it just done with oem parts so im just trying to get the low down from you fine gentleman that have jumped through the hoops already ya know ;)
