'97 Explorer Expedition
I just got back from having a tune-up performed on my 97 Explorer. I had a tune-up and the fuel injectors cleaned, fuel filter replaced and a new PCV valve installed, and new plugs and wires. Also had some other items checked such as the O2 sensors and the battery/charging system. The service center said that everything that was checked looked fine.

But, I cant seem to tell any difference in the pick up from a dead stop or any increased power. My question is, would switching to a higher grade of gas(octane) help any at all?

thanks for any info,

Michael

No, higher octane wont help.

"Tune ups" don't increase power, they regain power you've lost from worn parts. If the replaced parts were still decent, you won't notice any change.

That being said, try resetting your computer and see if that helps.

EDIT: BTW, I thought the Explorer "Expedition" package was only in '95?

Unless you're chipped, a higher grade of gas will not give you more power. The engine was designed to run on 87 octane, and running premium can sometimes reduce power.

You probably won't notice any power from a new fuel filter and PCV valve. Clean injectors may yield a very slight difference, but nothing big. From my experience, changing the spark plugs and wires is the easiest power gain without actually doing any "mods".
