2007 Sport Trac Limited
2007 explorer limited 4.0. Not mine but it belongs to she who must be obeyed. it will work fine for a few weeks or days then she will try to start it in the morning and nothing no lights no crank nothing. It has been to the stealership 4x now and they just scratch their butts. From what she says there are no idiot lights or anything on the dash. I am thinking it's the security system but that's as far as I would venture a guess. any thoughts thanks in advance.

Possibly needs an ignition lock cylinder, I have heard of this happening before with the 07's

I think if it's the PATS, the dash lights and accessories would still work. Do the dome light come on when the door is open? How about the power locks? If nothing works, I'd think it was the battery. Clean the battery posts and the insides of the cable clamps with a battery brush.

More to the story, new ignition lock cylinder, new key, and pats transceive. Am waiting till it does it again to test the battery.

When it happened to mine it was a bad battery terminal of all things.

Got around to looking at it today. Battery 12.50 v off 13.56 running. Then I check the posts and the neg cable terminal is loose. I just want to scream. Hopefully that was the problem, I want to choke a stealership.

I don't blame you. A loose battery connection would have been the first thing I'd have looked at. Your Ford dealership sounds incompetent. I would begin looking for a reliable substitute. This type of problem can happen to any vehicle so don't point the finger of blame at Ford in general but rather your recent dealership experience specifically. For what it's worth, I have a competent Ford dealer near me where I bought my ST. They performed warranty work and a few out of warranty repairs well enough to satisfy me.

Oh, by the way, you should replace the battery if it is the original. My original battery developed an internal failure at 67,500 miles after almost 5 years of faithful service.

If it makes you feel any better, I called AAA and had mine towed to the Gulf station across town. In fairness, I had recently had rotator cuff surgery and wasn't in any condition to lift the hood and poke around.

Thanks, I am usually up and gone by the time she gets going so I 've not had the opportunity to get to it before she had it towed. I wrote Ford corp offices, but do not expect anything. I am sending the same letter to the owner of the stealership and again do not expect anything will be done either. At least I can tell everyone I know to stay away from them.

3 weeks later no problems to report. I am having a magnetic sign made detailing my experience and putting it on my Rangers tailgate to give some free advert for these thieves.
