could somebody please clarify which type of coolant goes into a 2015 explorer 3.5 non eco boost motor. The manuals states fords special orange, which if that’s what I gotta buy then fine. But what I’m asking is what alternative coolant can I use. I’ve got dexcool and the guy at the local parts place sold me g-05. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

As long as its orange and says Ford on it, you're fine. I have a 17 3.5 v6 NA and I've never used the OEM coolant (the one I use can also be used for like 2 other car manufacturers vehicle).

You have answered your own question about which coolant goes in the engine. Motorcraft orange. Some auto parts stores sell motorcraft orange on sale sometimes. Rather than playing aquatic chemistry set with potentially incompatible or different coolants in your engine, spend the $25 to buy a gallon of orange concentrate. Go to Kroger and buy a $0.99 gallon distilled water jug. Pour half the water into a clean bucket. Top off the half-empty water jug with half the orange concentrate. Now pour the other half of the water back into the half-empty orange concentrate jug. You now have 2 gallons of OEM coolant at 50/50 mix as specified. Cross off the "concentrate" on the label with a sharpie and write "50:50 FORD ORANGE MIX" on the label of each jug. Done. The maybe ten dollars saved isn't worth it here in my opinion. Given the problems already documented about water pumps and gaskets in this era of explorers, I wouldn't personally risk my investment in finding out the hard way my parts store coolant had EHA or something else in it that caused failure.

Gotcha. So it’s motorcraft orange or nothing. I’ll get it and be safe.

No, not done. You forgot the special incantation "Oh antifreeze, oh antifreeze, don't let me end up on my knees". You gotta say it eleven times. THEN you're done.
