A breif histoiry to this thread.
I have a Jeep that I need to tow to off road events and have been flat towing with the class 2 hitch.
Its now time to get the jeep up on a trailer to reduce the wear and tear of the moving parts.
I found this ad on Craigs List
"I'd like to find a place to rent to keep my flatbed car trailer. Please let me know where and what price you charge. Outdoor storage is fine. Only occasional access is needed. "
I call the guy and say " Hey , you can store it at my house for free, just let me use it less then a dozen times a year "
He said thats perfect and dropped it off at my house tomorrow with the straps. it has built in ramps. He also lives a half hour from me. What are the chances of us both needing it at the same time? He pulls a mustang, not a Jeep
Here it is
I found a class 3 receiver from u haul. Part number 78242,,,(75132 wont match up with an 02 6cly AWD)
UH didnt have the hitch in stock and found one in MA at another UH and was going to have it shipped to my local NY UH. I called for a tracking number and it was never shipped. I told them to ship it overnite at their charge and they did.
I previously installed the plug and was set with that,,, write up to come
Heres the install
THese 2 bolts had to be removed from the stock hitch on both sides
And re installed
I also had to install new bolts that had to be slid into the rear of the frame and dropped into a hole. This sucked
Its a very odd set up because the new hitch has a shank that goes into the class 2 hitch for support.
Hitch ball storage
I drove onto the scale today with the jeep on the trailer and it totalled 4700 pounds,,, not too bad
Now the big question is...
Scince I upgraded the class 2 to a class 3 with the 3 still in place does this make mine a class 4 or more?
I saw a sport track today with a factory class 3 and the tow bar material looked as weak as my factory class 2
